I’ve been good, I promise.

But reading through the gazillion marginal notes I’ve written in my Reformation Study Bible, I noticed I’d made a note to myself in verse 7 to check out the greek word for ‘impurity’.

Akatharsis.

I figured it was going to be some word with an ‘A’ behind it to negate it. Greek is easy to figure out like that.

Appears ten times in the NT – nine of those times, it’s associated with fornication or something sexual. The only time it doesn’t is at 1 Thess. 2:3.

So okay. Sexually impure motives, thoughts and intentions.

That’s heavy.

God didn’t call us with the purpose of sexually impure thoughts and motives in mind, but in holiness.

That just takes the condemnation of sexual sin 2-3 levels deeper from this passage.

Gonna sit and ruminate on this one for a while. Probably check out some of the related passages as well….
