Remember Bruce Ware’s comments that sent a chill through me a while ago ? Well, after a GREAT weekend, my tsunami arrived.
The waters receded from the shore line and pulled out to sea on Monday, but I wasn’t paying attention. I was too busy complaining about no longer having water to play in at the edge of my beach.
Tuesday, the wave hit.
There was a man attempting to build a hut on a volcanic island. The island was racked with earthquakes and daily the man’s efforts at building himself a house were faced with ruin. Either the entire house would collapse or so many parts would fall off from the shaking, that it might as well had fallen completely apart.
The final two major quakes to the Island were devastating. But the man had done the impossible (or what others thought was impossible) – he’d finally built a stable home which never fell apart under the constant shaking of the island. He lived peacefully for a month or two.
Then the wave came. The wave was a result of the last earthquake – a 9.0 (much like a certain tsunami we recently heard of). It smashed his home to splinters, washed him off of the Island and out to sea.
He flailed in the water, wondering just how long he had before his lungs would fill with water and he would descend into the deep, dark, watery abyss. Wave after wave splashed water into his lungs as he tried to catch his breath. By sheer determination, he kept conscious and fought for the surface. Catching a glimpse of something solid approaching through the mangled mess of leaves, trees, vines and other things in the water, he reached and grabbed for it…..
and it turned out to be a major wall from his former home.
He at first held on to the wood, floating with it. He gathered his last bits of strength and pulled himself up on the wood, floating off into the sea. He collapsed, exhausted.
Awakened by a deafening BOOM, he arose to look back toward his former home and see the volcano on the island erupting and blowing the top off of the entire mountain…. and the remainder of the island. It seems the island was self-destructing.
And as he floated in the water, a tree filled with fruit came toward his ship with no effort whatsoever.
He smiled.
I’ll tell you more later.
