“No…what happened happened exactly as it was supposed to happen. It couldn’t have happened any other way.”

The only problem with morpheus’ statement was the worldview surrounding the philosophy that produced this statement. Morpheus was fatalistic, believing the ‘prophecies’ given concerning ‘the one’. In this system, pain, anger, death… have no true meaning outside of ‘they were destined to happen exactly in this way’. No moral depth to them except that which we would apply to them.

In the Biblical worldview, however, things operate much differently. Pain, death, hurt, etc…. are not all ends unto themselves, but somehow, somewhere, fit into the overall plan and purpose of an Intelligent and all-wise Creator who uses them for His reasons (some of which are revealed, others which are not). He is completely just, He is merciful and He is also loving and patient.

We may never get an answer for 911. We may never get an answer for London. We may never get an answer for the tsunami. We do know that ONE of God’s reasons for such things is to call people to repent (Luke 13:4-5). Stop asking why and start asking why. Not ‘why a tsunami’, but ‘why do I need to repent’ ?

I may never get an answer for 14 years ago. Or even 4 months ago. Unlike those who have no hope, I can rest on ROmans 8:28….. but not in a boastful fashion. I still hurt, I still anger, I still grow…daily. And all these things are a part of the process…..
