Now that we have a black president/new president…..
Do what scripture commands on the issue.
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, 2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. 3 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time. 7 For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
8 I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling;Â (1 Tim. 2:1-8, ESV)
Perspective, people, perspective. Paul wrote these words in a society a thousand times more pagan, filthy and wretched than the one we currently live in. He wrote in a society where there was a brothel (house of prostitution) on every other corner, similar to how there’s a liquor store on every other corner in the ‘hood’.
So pray for President-elect Obama. I didn’t vote for him either. But we have to remember who raises up men, kingdoms and puts those same kingdoms down and removes those leaders (Daniel 4:29-35). God decreed that Reagan would serve 8 years. God decreed that Clinton would serve 8 years. God decreed that Bush would serve 8 years. And now He has decreed that Obama would serve for at least one term. He works ALL THINGS for good for His people (Romans 8:28) and according to His all-wise counsel (Eph. 1:11). He is infinitely wise. So within His eternal plan for all of history, this is one facet of it.
Just because you don’t like it doesn’t make it any less true. Trust God and not men.
The world isn’t going to end. YOUR world isn’t going to end. And if it is, then you have too much stock invested in this world, this life and people in certain political parties.
I’ve said this in larger format 20+ days ago at http://theologicallycorrect.com/?p=99 but sometimes we need a reminder.
God is Sovereign. Continue to plan, vote and do all that society and government allow you the privilege to do. Leave the results to God. Vote your principles – not the ‘lesser of two evils’ – and leave the results to God (2 Sam. 10:12, 1 Chron. 19:13).
Continue to raise your children up in the fear of the Lord. Leave the results to God.
Continue to preach the gospel without adding techniques and smooth language to it. Preach the truth as written in scripture. Leave the results to God.
Pray for the president and those whom he must now lead. Know that without God leading him, he WILL falter, stumble and do things which are harmful to the country. Pray for his safety so that he may make it through a difficult 4 years without assassination or other physical harm….so he can see his daughters grow up and continue to love his wife and honor her publicly.
And if you have a sour attitude about his being elected or you’re one of those people who McCain had to shut up earlier this evening when they started booing….. pray for yourself and your attitude – that God would soften it and make you more charitable. And if you know someone like this…. share Christ with them.
Soli Deo Gloria,
K. Joel Gilliard aka BlackCalvinist aka G.R.A.C.E. Preecha
