Just thoughts. I’ve spent a few days as of late, battling back and forth with some Covenant Theologians (CT) on a certain discussion board that shall remain nameless. For those who don’t know, I’m not CT. I’m a bit of a Progressive Dispensationalist (PD) with some leanings toward CT. Eat the meat, spit out the bones a bit. I’m more ‘reformed’ than MacArthur (who is still a classic dispensationalist, with a few modifications), but not a James White or R.C. Sproul.

Anyway, one particular board I’m on, I’ve ran across the usual CT knee-jerk reaction to anything with the word ‘dispensationalism’ in it. I’ve seen these folks decide that they’re going to let the ‘loonies’ (Peter and Paul Lalonde, John Hagee, Hal Lindsey, Chuck Missler, etc…) who make ridiculous and unbiblical statements, represent (at least to them) ALL dispensationalists or the ‘leaders’ of dispensationalism. I told them that, IMO, they were picking the ‘weakest’ and ‘wackiest’ of the bunch and (just because they sell a lot of books) by making them the de facto leaders of a movement. Dispensationalism has a TON of very conservative seminaries and THOUSANDS of Pastors who would reject the looniness of these guys and who seek to be biblically faithful, even though they do get some things wrong. I call them the ‘academics’. The ‘academics’ have always been the ‘leaders’ in any field. I told these folks simply that their picking these folks and making them the ‘typical dispensationalist’ that they seek to refute, all they’ve really done is pick the sick lobster out of the tank to cook. They pick the Lalondes of the tank, whose pincers are weak and unable to truly defend, and leave the MacArthurs alone, who would draw blood if they so caught their fingers in the grip (ok, I just came from the grocery store watching the lobster tank and I was thinking about my crayfish at work. Sue me. )

Anyway, I told them simply that they aren’t being fair with their argumentation. On top of this, a few folks made some comments about dispensationalism and dispensationalists and what they believe that were….
