Just dealing. Life sucks and I’m complaining.

That’s all.

Even though my kids did a great job at Winter Concert and my grad school instructor has shown me grace on getting some assignments in late.

I did a little reading on William Cowper today and how he suffered from depression most of his life and I’m like ‘dang….does it ever get better ?’

Keep me in prayer. I’m being tried, tested and refined…. and I wish that God would stop it.

Of course, from reading my Bible, I *know* that all of this stuff is working toward my ultimate best good (Romans 8:28) and His glory. But good grief, does it….oh wait… Job.

Maybe that’s where some of my reading needs to be. It must be something to curse the day you were born. Here I am complaining about smaller things…..

This is pretty presumptuous of me seeing as I don’t know you and you don’t know me. However, this is the Internet where everyone’s an expert, right?

In any event, what you’re feeling appears to be something I currently struggle with quite a bit. I have to believe — my theology dictates it, in fact — that God’s in control and that whatever happens is because He’s being glorified. I’m especially wrestling with the fact that God may even want me to “fail” (in a human sense, of course … for if it’s in God’s plan, there’s no greater success) … thereby meaning I can and never will see any “good” from it, except in the sense that I find it good (indeed, find it pleasurable) to glorify God.

While I don’t know what all you’re dealing with, I can encourage you to constantly be willing and submissive to God’s Sovereign Power. I know that I need to constantly beg for His grace to empower my will to submit to His.

    Not presumptuous at all, Matthew.

Thanks. You’ve given me MUCH to meditate and think on.

I’ve been in your situation. As humans, we have our good days and bad days – it is natural. But when we choose to continue to focus on the negative experiences, the heartache, and all of the things that don’t go the way we hope, then we stay in depression. It is hard, but you must by all odds choose to focus of things that are honest, pure, just, loving, and of God. Force yourself to be around positive things and things opposite of how you feel. Only you can make that decision!

Don’t expand one bad day into two bad days, and two bad days into a week, and so forth. That is how true depression kicks in.
